Bizarre Product Ads

Strange but real advertisements of real products from the not-so-distant past, when doctors posed for Camel cigarettes, and Lysol was a feminine wash.

Remember a time when smoking was considered sexy instead of deadly? When women wanted to get thin so much, they would actually eat parasites prevent weight gain? Do you remember when STD was still better known as VD?

Take a look at these bizarre advertisements - and the weirdest thing about them is they actually existed!

The Lard spoof originated in the British comic Viz.

There was actually a brand of condoms in the 1920s called "Frat Boy."

Spoof or not, lard DOES taste great on hot rice, with a little salt ;)

I've got tape worms....... They're great!!! Unfortunately I also have a venereal disease.

The "Blow in her face" ad was a variant on the old Laugh-In line: "Blow in my ear and I'll follow you anywhere."

i can't believe people actually did that stuff!! People are happy because they eat lard..Great article, a good laugh for the day ;)

Women would douche with Lysol because a lot of the ads made it sound like it would kill sperm, 'sanitizing' everything. I wonder what it actually did...

Great article, love reading old stuff. Have a
newspaper dated 1925, wow rooms did rent for
50 cents back then. New at Triond and curious
does anyone make any money? Any help would be
great. Thanks

Oh, absolutely, kellie! It depends on how popular your article becomes, though. For instance, I earned twice as much from the McDonald article in one month than I did from a whole year of everything else put together ;)
